Stories of Bifurcation is an ongoing project that begins with a speculation on the symbiotic relationships between post-human life and mycorrhizal fungal networks. In this chapter, "I" searches for the traces left by my so-called "grandmother" and realizes that she was a “humanoid” intelligent being who, before her demise and being abandoned, tried to connect with the mycorrhizal networks, or even expected to be decoded, consumed, and reformatted by them. She intended to hack the wood wide web by imitating the mycoheterotrophic plant, Monotropa uniflora, and, by asexual reproduction, she reproduced the feminine clade in which "I" belong. “The full moon illuminated the edges of the clouds as she examined inside her body, the glimmer of sensors shining faintly through the cortical layers. The chance of becoming a Ghost Plant was so slim, the chance of hacking into the underground network, was like what Nabokov writes as " a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness", fleeting. She began to sweat.”
《歧路故事I：“外祖母”》是费亦宁“歧路故事”系列影像作品的第一节。在本节中，身份未知的“我”，追寻所谓“外祖母”留下的痕迹，并意识到她是一个在衰毁与被离弃之前，主动试图与菌根体联结、或期待被其解码同化的类人智能生命体。“外祖母”意图模仿真菌异营的“骇客“生物单花锡杖花 (Monotropa uniflora)介入树联网（Wood Wide Web），并最终以单性生殖的方式，迭代出“我”所在的阴性族系。 “歧路故事”系列是一个在进行中的项目，起始于对后人类生命与菌根共生，以及其他存在和繁殖形式的推想。艺术家构建了一个缠绕流动的跨物种网络图景，以多方面共生的克苏鲁纪（Chthulucene）寓言方式，展开对不同维度图像的幻想试验。以去人类中心主体的视角，尝试讨论在多重的时间和空间中其他存在形式的可能性。
